The Chattel House is not a shed, it's a home office, pool house or maybe a summerhouse. The location of a building of this size needs careful consideration, this is a key difference when buying a Chattel House. Many of our clients have taken this opportunity to redesign their garden with the Chattel House as a focal feature.

The Chattel House designer, John Murdoch, son of a UN diplomat, spent his formative years growing up in various countries overseas exposed to a wide range of different cultural environments that have strongly influenced his approach to design. He has particularly fond memories of Barbados and its people. Professionally, he continues to be inspired by the Barbadian landscape and its unique Georgian Palladian architecture as expressed in the fine plantation houses that grace the island's sugar estates. He retains a particular affection for a much humbler dwelling, still used as a home on the island, that surprisingly derived from the same Palladian tradition, namely, the chattel house.
